Lastly, but not leastly, I need some help and will give you an extra entry if you can offer any!
I rediscovered this table in my storage area. A I am sorry for the terrible lighting, but that is basement living on a rainy day.
It is at least 50 years old but I’m not sure how much older. It was professionally refinished once about 20 years ago and now is in horrible shape again. So, here is my question, really two questions. First, can anyone tell me anyone tell me anything about this table? Second, if it was yours would you paint it black or would that be a crime?
I can’t wait to see and hear your ideas! Tohank you in advance for any help! The linky and giveaway will be open til next Friday night.
Oh, if you want to pass the word on for me either via your blog or Facebook, leave a 5th comment telling me for a 5th chance to win!
Going to share the giveaway with some new friends @
and
I'm pretty sure that's a gateleg table w/a drop leaf top. :o) I don't think the DP (Decorating Police) will haul you off if you paint the table black. Actually, I think it would look quite nice. :o) As for how I'd decorate the console...anyway that frees it from the dust is a good look for me. ;o)
ReplyDeleteI think it would look great in black, or you could put the work into re-staining it.. but black sounds good to my lazy self ;) I decorate my side table with yarn balls in an apothecary jar, and a festive runner. The colors of the balls change for seasons and holidays (or at least that was the plan)
ReplyDeleteI can always use a new runner, CSN carries those, right?

I have a little table in my entry way that I refinished and painted black. I think it would be cute if you painted yours black. No point keeping it a certain way if you don't love it.
ReplyDeleteI keep my table simple.. and have since added a pop of red with a daisy in a vase with sand. I am linking up with my photo!
I linked up! Like I said in the previous comment, I have since added a little clear vase with red sand in it and a red daisy stuck in to it. It's so perfect all together! I love it.
ReplyDeleteI say paint your table to your liking! You will feel good that you made it look so much better and will be able to enjoy it. I would definitely paint it black. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog!
ReplyDeleteI would decorate a lovely console table with those first pumpkins you put on your blog. I love those! I would add some mossy sticks and leaves. Fall - lovely time of year!
ReplyDeleteI love a console table that's not too cluttered. Definitely need to have a candle or two on there! And some element of nature, whether it be dried or fresh flowers, sticks, etc. Would love a CSN gift to help my poor bare console table out!
ReplyDeleteI linked up above to a table from CSN that I love. I should, it's over $1,000!!
ReplyDeleteI'm now a follower of your blog! Yay!
ReplyDeleteAnd finally... about that table. I've recently come to the conclusion that it's better to paint something and actually use it and enjoy it, instead of letting something sit because either you're too concerned about painting something that was originally a natural wood finish, or you don't have time to sand, strip, refinish, stain, etc. I say throw some black paint on, distress the edges a little, and see how it turns out! Go for it!

ReplyDeleteI am really into pumpkins and fall. I tend to leave my fall decor out as long as I can. Besides that I love glass stuff too. So mine would be covered with glass vases and fall decor and maybe something that smells good. Like fresh pie!
ReplyDeleteI linked up!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower too.
ReplyDeleteI love to decorate a little table and change the decor with each season. My little one gathers materials from outside for decorating.

ReplyDeleteMy console is actually a vintage dresser that I rescued and painted block to hide the peeling veneer, and it's on your link party.
ReplyDeleteI love to use vignettes that surprise people with odd colors or combinations.
ReplyDeleteI've been a follower and regular stalker here for months! I need my Keen fixes!
ReplyDeleteLastly, that baby would be glossy black in a heartbeat over here. I think that will really bring out the details and let the piece shine. At first glance, that honestly looks like a table from the 30's. My grandmother had a similar one.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely a follower!! And I would paint it black as well. It would look fabulous!!

If that table is solid wood, it would be a shame to paint it! But if it's veneer and the veneer is starting to peel, paint may be the only thing that saves it. Good luck whatever you decide! :)
ReplyDeleteOHHHH! Thanks for the chance to win!! I love CSN---love their shoes and purses:) SO FUN! I like decorating with candles and fake leaves--or whatever is in season (flowers, pine branches/etc.). I like simple but full of color and detail!

I personally am not a good decorator, never have been but fall is my favorite time. I love the colors of the leaves turning and the pumkins so I would decorate in oranges and browns. I love the table but I would have to have someone else finish it for me. You will do well!

I wold dfinitely paint it black. But if you are really worried, get it appraised before doing anything to it!
ReplyDeleteWe got some tables from my husband's grandparents and they weren't anything we would typically use. So we painted them and put new hardware on them, and now they are one of my favorite items. But you want to make sure you aren't taking away te value of the item before you paint!
Because we have honey oak furniture, I would decorate my console table with a big handmade wooden bowl (with the bark on the rim if I could) full of pears. Very autumn.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!

I really want some console tables for behind my antique benches in my living room. I would like to use them for putting blankets(in a nice basket) at the bottom and some wooden carvings on top.
ReplyDeletechantalmulder@yahoo.com
I would decorate my table (and plan to) with some fall colored flowers, and some mini pumpkins. Can't wait til Christmas and I can cover it in my nutcrackers!!
ReplyDeleteI think your table would look good in black, just make sure to put on a thick acrylic coat though so the paint doesn't come up when you lift up an object that's been sitting there a few days. We have that problem here in Texas, even if we have the clear coat on, because the humidity never fully dries the paint, its always a little tacky, even on our molding on the walls. Horrible!!
ReplyDeleteI would decorate a console table with candles and roses. So Lovely.

I love gourds! I would totally put a great bowl full of gourds out, along with some candles. I have one of those lanterns you put candles in which would look great!
ReplyDeletejennyapalmer(at)gmail(dot)com
I usually decorate my tables with terrariums. Perhaps for fall I would add some orange accent pieces to each of them.

ReplyDeletethis one is like mine but much nicer,I got mine at a yard sale for 10 bucks and it looks a bit pitiful, its no antique.I believe it was made in the 60's so it's not that old

LOVE the pumpkins you featured! I would love to use them with real pumpkins on a console.
ReplyDeletelynsym at gmail dot com
I decorate with pumpkins and real leaves. I saw recently a wreath made of old book pages and music notes that I thought was divine and fall-like cut into leaf patterns.

I am not a huge holiday decorator, but I love keeping various picture frames, which I switch out season to season on my console. I also love putting big vases of fresh flowers which I usually switch out weekly. Nothing beats the smell of fresh flowers!! :)

I decorate with candles/candle holders and pictures, usually.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would not paint that table black. Wrong style
I would decorate with my kids pictures and some pretty fall decoration...so boring I know...
ReplyDeleteI don't have one, but I would decorate one with some vintage liquor bottles I have (the fancy crystal decanter type) and a small Tiffany lamp, and maybe one of those racks that holds six or eight highballs glasses!
ReplyDeleteI'm #12 in the linky!
ReplyDeleteI follow you!
ReplyDeleteAnd your table would look great with some milk paint--they have some great posts on using milk paint over at Design Sponge!
ReplyDeleteI have my great grandparent's console table. I do think I should change the decor to match the seasons more. Right now it has candles, a plant, and some birds on it. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeletemypatzer(at)yahoo(dot)com
I'm not too big into fall decor, but I do like mums, so I guess I'd go for one of those. Or maybe a nice round large pumpkin
ReplyDeleteI have some really cute halloween wood letter that spell out "BOO" and stuffed crow I'd like to put on my console table for the fall. My console table is in my front hall, and the kids use it to drop stuff on as they walk in the front door. So currently it is decorated with 4 water bottles, a dog leash and a Boy scout handbook. I guess we should clean today!

I would love to have a table in my entryway to decorate, and someday I will blog soliciting help with my awkward floor plan...but if I did have one I would want it to feature seasonal decorating--especially with one of those glass lamps you can fill with pretty things!
